School Catering

Students at Waldegrave can use the school dining hall and/or bring packed lunches.  We have been in partnership with Cucina, part of the Impact Food Group, since 2016. Cucina have an emphasis on fresh ingredients and meals cooked on site, and a pricing policy designed to encourage healthy choices.  Cucina pride themselves on the policy that “…food must be seen as more than just a fuel.  Food has the ability to boost health, improve concentration for learning, create a sense of well-being and act as a social catalyst”.  All food is made from scratch onsite every day, ingredients are sourced direct from the growers and farmers and menus are focused around making maximum use of local fruit and vegetables in season. Free School Meals

If your child is eligible for Free School meals this information is automatically transferred to our Biometric system from the school system. The daily allowance is put on your child’s account every morning. Unused allowance is removed at the end of the day so that the allowance does not build up – it must be used daily. If you wish to add any of your own money to their account to purchase extra items such as drinks etc. you can do so by crediting your child’s account see above. The system ensures that the daily allowance is always used before starting to use any cash loaded on to the account.  Parents must remember to renew their child’s entitlement when reminded to do so by the local authority.

For those entitled to free school meals, Cucina, our school catering partner, think differently and recognise that lunchtimes are an extremely important part of the day.  Cucina therefore offer all those entitled to free school meals any two items from the daily lunch menu regardless of selling price for the current free school price; for instance, soup and a main course, main course and a pudding, soup and a sandwich, salad and a drink, or even a slice of homemade pizza and a cake.  Cucina realise their approach is unique, but hope you like it…customers certainly seem to!

Since those entitled to free school meals have limited budgets, Cucina don’t believe in hindering the choice of what is in essence their main meal of the day, instead choosing to offer them choice across the full range of foods on offer within the daily menu.  Cucina believe the approach of offering a meal deal for free school mealers always reduces the nutrition that they receive.  Cucina will fund any spend over and above the current local authority free school meal value.

To check if you are eligible, please go to Richmond Borough website for information.

A copy of the form to apply for pupil premium funding / free school meals can also be downloaded here, completed and returned to Mr Jones, Pupil Premium Coordinator, via info@waldegravesch.org.
