We’ve finally reached the end of the weirdest and most difficult of school years. Our students and staff have shown remarkable resilience and adaptability and we’re so proud of them. We wish all of our Waldegrave families a very well-earned break. Have a great summer!

[NEWS] Families in Richmond upon Thames are being urged to check if they qualify for free school meals. Check if your family is eligible: https://t.co/S8P0Z9nGAc 🍽️ https://t.co/dK942gULA1

School Catering

Students at Waldegrave can use the school dining hall and/or bring packed lunches. From September 2016 we have a new catering company,  we are excited by this new partnership with Cucina Resturants Limited. Cucina have an emphasis on fresh ingredients and meals cooked on site, and a pricing policy designed to encourage healthy choices.  Cuina pride themselves on the policy that “…food must be seen as more than just a fuel.  Food has the ability to boost health, improve concentration for learning, create a sense of well-being and act as a social catalyst”.  All food is made from scratch onsite every day, ingredients are sourced direct from the growers and farmers and menus are focused around making maximum use of local fruit and vegetables in season.  Further information can be found at http://www.cucina.co.uk/.

The restaurant provide a 3 week menu cycle, the menu's for September 2018 are below;

Cashless Catering

At Waldegrave we use a biometric system which uses a finger scan which provides a fast, efficient service with the following advantages:

  • On-line payments possible via ParentPay
  • No more lost cards / cash / purses
  • Free meals allocated automatically with the student remaining anonymous
  • Specific food allergy ingredients can be barred automatically

The system, used in many schools, is based on biometric recognition. Parents not wishing to sign up should contact the school so that arrangements can be made to issue their daughter with a card, see FAQ document.

Parents come to lunch

The catering staff are proud of the high standard and variety of lunches served at school and want parents to be able to sample what is available. If parents would like to come and have a free lunch they should contact Ms Smith via the school office, letting her know which day they would like to come in. Parents can visit on any day of the week and should aim to arrive at 12:25 pm.

Free School Meals

If your child is eligible for Free School meals this information is automatically transferred to our Biometric system from the school system. The daily allowance is put on your child’s account every morning. Unused allowance is removed at the end of the day so that the allowance does not build up – it must be used daily. If you wish to add any of your own money to their account to purchase extra items such as drinks etc. you can do so by crediting your child’s account see above. The system ensures that the daily allowance is always used before starting to use any cash loaded on to the account.  Parents must remember to renew their child’s entitlement when reminded to do so by the local authority.

For those entitled to free school meals, Cucina, our school catering partner, think differently and recognise that lunchtimes are an extremely important part of the day.  Cucina therefore offer all those entitled to free school meals any two items from the daily lunch menu regardless of selling price for the current free school price; for instance, soup and a main course, main course and a pudding, soup and a sandwich, salad and a drink, or even a slice of homemade pizza and a cake.  Cucina realise their approach is unique, but hope you like it…customers certainly seem to!

Since those entitled to free school meals have limited budgets, Cucina don’t believe in hindering the choice of what is in essence their main meal of the day, instead choosing to offer them choice across the full range of foods on offer within the daily menu.  Cucina believe the approach of offering a meal deal for free school mealers always reduces the nutrition that they receive.  Cucina will fund any spend over and above the current local authority free school meal value.

To check if you are eligible, please go to Richmond Borough website for information and forms.
