Accessing mental health support early can make a critical difference for young people - and can save money and resources for services later down the line. It’s time the Government make early mental health support a national priority. Young people and parents deserve better.

From today, those experiencing domestic abuse will be able to go into a Boots or indie chemist & seek help. If they say the codeword ‘ANI’ they’ll be taken to a private room & asked if they want to call 999 or domestic abuse helpline. ANI stands for Action Needed Immediately

Hollie McNish had a good point over on Instagram. That if you or your kids are stressed by the idea of 'lockdown' and 'isolation' reframe the concept as 'hibernation' which makes it sound more fun and squirrelish.

Parents

“Parental engagement in children’s learning makes a difference, a very big difference. It is the most powerful school improvement lever we have.”

Power and Goodall (2008) - Do Parents Know They Matter? (p.167)

Partnership

At Waldegrave School, we believe that parent and family involvement in students’ education promotes learning as a lifelong skill for all. To this end, we would ask you to enter into a partnership with the school; a partnership that actively promotes both independence and resilience on the behalf of the student.

Communication

As with any partnership, communication is key, and we aim to maintain a constant dialogue with parents through our newsletters, SMS, E-mail, Parent Consultation Evenings, Information / Curriculum Evenings and our annual Parent Forum. We are also developing a Waldegrave APP to create another method of communication with you, as well as looking to implement the StudyBugs APP through which you will be able to report an absence.

You Said / We Did

‘I would like to know what homework my child is being set..’

We now ask every member of staff to record the homework your child is set on FROG (our virtual learning platform). We are looking to share a FROG access with families so they can view homework tasks.

‘The Open Evening events were very crowded…’

We now hold four Open Mornings for parents instead of a single evening event. This has significantly improved the experience of everyone involved in the events.

‘Some schools use StudyBugs to report absences - why doesn’t Waldegrave?’

We will be launching StudyBugs at Waldegrave in Autumn 2018. We feel this will make absence reporting much simpler for parents, and the medical guidance provided by the NHS, which is a feature of the APP, may be very helpful to families.

Waldegrave School aims to work in partnership with parents across all years.  Our Home School Agreement outlines the ways in which parents, students and the school can work together to ensure that all our students enjoy school, achieve their potential and are empowered to go on to the next step in their lives with success.

Parent View

Please could parents take a moment to follow this link to complete the Ofsted Parent View questionnaire, it takes less than 5 minutes and will help to give us invaluable feedback on the working of the school.
