Y12 Study Leave and Progression information

Progression criteria

In order to re-enrol into Year 13 students must achieve a minimum of three D grades in their AS/Internal examinations. This is in line with national benchmarks. At this stage students should be focussed on their revision and exam technique to ensure success at the end of Year 12. Students who are only studying three A Levels will not be able to ‘drop’ a subject in September and must meet the re enrolment criteria in all three subjects. Students who are at risk of not achieving this will be contacted and support plans put in place. Students studying four subjects will be able to ‘drop’ the subject they are least successful in, this decision will only be made after A Level results.

Students and parents are advised to be available on A Level results day Thursday 16 August should you need to meet with the Sixth Form team regarding your Sixth Form place.

Exam arrangements/Study Leave/Year 13 Programme of Study

Year 12 Study Leave will begin on Friday 11 May 2018. Most AS examinations begin on Monday 14 May, with the exception of some of the Art subjects and Modern Foreign Languages. Students need to check their timetables carefully to ensure they have the correct information for their exams.

Students can choose to study at home or use the study resources in the Sixth Form.  During the weeks beginning 14 May and 21 May there will be optional Year 12 lessons available for those not in an exam. This means students can follow their normal timetable and seek support from their subject teachers.

Subjects that are not offering the AS qualification but are following the linear specification will be having internal examinations the week beginning 18 June. Students must revise and prepare for these examinations as they would for an external exam as the result will count towards their progression into Year 13, and form the basis of their UCAS predicted grade in that subject.

During the week beginning 11 June, there will be revision classes put on for students who wish to seek support from their teachers regarding the upcoming internal exams. Subject specific information will be available nearer the time.

Work Experience

Year 12 Students will be attending their work experience 25-29 June; A Level teaching will resume on Monday 2 July. All students will be continuing with their Year 12 timetable. Information regarding end of term careers, university and celebration events will be sent out at a later date.
