The day finally arrived when sixteen Year 8 and 9 students participated in the nationwide BBC School Report event. Over the course of the day, the girls had to work both individually and as a team to find, write and present the news, all before a tight 2 pm deadline. Although a challenge, the girls approached it with such maturity and confidence that a potential stressful environment was completely avoided. Having honed their journalistic skills through attending weekly editorial meetings over the past few months, the girls selected really interesting and controversial stories. A selection of which is below.
Peers in Schools for Parliament Week
Members of the House of Lords visited 15 schools across the UK as part of the first ever Parliament Week in November 2011.

Youth Parliament Elections
From the 24 January to the 7 February 2011, students had the opportunity to vote for the Richmond Borough Youth Member of Parliament. The MYP is there to ensure that young people’s views in Richmond borough are taken into account; to make sure decisions that are being made on behalf of young people actually involve young people. They attend the Richmond Youth Forum meetings, Regional Youth Parliament meetings across London, the Youth Parliament Annual Sitting; and various other meetings with managers, directors and politicians across Richmond borough and London.
